Spirit of Death

NOTE:  Because it has pained my heart to see how some people could have misunderstood some things I had original wrote in this article to be an accusation or judgement on people, I have removed the portion of this post that was being  misinterpreted.  I also apologize to any of the people who were upset by my misunderstood words.  What you accused me of is absolutely the opposite of my heart as proven by my long history in the music scenes of our area.  I have also removed the comments (or portions of comments) related to that topic because the whole misunderstanding was distracting from the sincere and genuine purpose of this post.First and foremost, this is a call for believers to pray for the release of God’s love, life, peace, and protection in Mountainburg and Alma specifically.  It is a call to pray for comfort for the families affected by the recent tragedies.  It is a call for believers to petition the Lord to reverse the statistical anomaly of the intensity of deaths in these two cities.I still welcome comments or e-mails on the misunderstanding, and will address them privately. While driving back to Arkansas on Friday (June 22nd), I began thinking in terms of military strategy - and how if anyone wanted to secure the Fort Smith River Valley, they would need to block off Hwy 71/I-540 coming into Alma, AR from the north.  I told Robin, “I’m not sure if I thinking about this because I’m bored and for some reason pondering military strategy seems interesting, or if there’s some spiritual significance to what I’m seeing - but, I’m really thinking that the roads into Alma from the north need to be blockaded.”Fast Forward.  We’re at a birthday party in the Van Buren Park for our now-five-year-old boy, Gideon (a warrior familiar with mountaineous military strategy himself), and I was asking someone how they were doing, and it came up that “another girl from Alma” had died earlier that day.  Having been out of town, I asked, “Another?”  Well, I knew of the first - a high school girl had died in a car accident a few weeks ago.  But, I didn’t know that within a few days of that tragic accident, two other young people from the area drowned in a local river. As soon as my friend said this, I immediately thought of some “spiritual mapping” our young-adult/youth-leader group had done back in like ‘98-’99.  You didn’t have to be overly spiritual or discerning to know that Mountainburg, the town just north of Alma, was under the sway of a Spirit of Death.  For at least a ten year period (that we knew of), at least one highschooler seemed to die tragically about every-other year.  Not to mention the tragic “Bloody Sunday” event that was a blaring part of the town’s history, and has, in the past, been almost glorified as a touristy idea (all area Christian observances ceased for about 70 years after this church-potluck-turned-family-feud).  At that moment, I saw vividly the dark cloud of the Spirit of Death travelling down Highway 71 into Alma - with no resistance.  It has spread, and found a new home. You’re probably immediately making the connection with the thing I was seeing the evening before - but it took me about five minutes and then it hit me: the Lord was showing me that a blockade NEEDS to be established between Alma and Mountainburg.I don’t know why the Lord created this scriptually obvious legal system and heirarchy of spiritual powers and the way they war with each other and the rest of God’s creation - and why all of the weekly services of so many wonderful congregations in Alma weren’t enough to establish the presence and power of God in that city and create enough resistance to the devil and his minions - but they weren’t - and aren’t - without specific discernment and specific resistance.  Don’t get me wrong; this is in no way an accusation to any believers in the area; but, it IS an alarm - a trumpet blast - a call for a solemn assembly, and for fasting, weeping, mourning, and prayer.  I believe it was a glimpse into what is going on in the city, and a call from the Lord for the Body of Christ to stand and do something about it - now.  It’s a call to resist the devil, and to wrestle with powers and principalities in heavenly places. If you know me, you know that I’m not a “demon behind every bush” type of person - but, I am submitting this to my fellow Almanians and our brothers and sisters in the Greater Fort Smith Region and beyond.  Let’s join together and say “No More! The Lord rebukes you, spirit of death.  Our weapons are not carnal, they are mighty through God for the tearing down of strongholds.”Although I am out of town for the majority of these next two months, I would encourage believers and congregations in the area to call specific gatherings and ask for specific prayer and fasting focus on this issue.  I am sending an e-mail with a link to this post to some of the leadership I know in the area, and to people up here that I know are from there - and am encouraging them to send it to those they feel led to send it.  Please join with us in prayer and fasting.  If you have any specific scriptures, direction, insights, etc, please post them as comments below.

Do you care if I share this with a friend of mine from Alma who is struggling with demonic attacks on her son? She is a wonderful Christian Lady, who is sure that the forces of Evil are attacking her family.

You may absolutely share anything you find on our site.
I will specifically be praying for this young man and his mother this week.

I appreciate your on-going prayer and sensitivity in the Spirit for the Alma area, Aaron. Our men’s prayer ministry, and separately the next day, the women’s prayer group, picked up an urgency to pray about the Spirit of Death seeking avenues of influence from Mountainburg through Alma, Van Buren, and onward into Fort Smith. This occurred just BEFORE the death of the first young lady you mentioned earlier, and then the urgency intensified even more. (Long standing intercessory groups in the FSM area have prayed for our local body in Alma for many years because they sensed one of our responsibilities and mantles was to serve as the “north gate” above the great River Valley region. (I believe this also includes other praying churches as well.)

Rick Ridings from Jerusalem prophesied over this region from our church, noting God wanted The Church (you know what I mean) to answer the call in 24/7 prayer, praise, and intercession to become a valley of refuge.

Thank you for sounding the alarm. Keep praying…this is going to be a “whole family” affair that is far too big for any one church or group to “slap a brand” on.

Appreciate you and Robin,

Pastor Larry

I had just met the girl that drowned in the river about two weeks before it happened. A good friends brother was marrying into that family. It was obviously very surprising for the family they were both very young.

I’ll make it a point to pray for Alma.

The spirit of death is here indeed. Has been since about Genesis 2:17

“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

Of course I’m not talking about the natural law of death put into motion at the fall of man and the original sin.

Even if this was nothing supernatural, the statistical anomaly and the effect on these communities is enough to qualify them for some additional prayer support.

I suggest that anyone who’s willing to spend some time in prayer, even if you don’t think there’s any special attack going on in the spirit realm, please pray for:

  • wisdom (for people’s desires to move away from addictions and activities that increase danger)
  • supernatural health and protection - why not reverse the anomaly?
  • a fascination with life and love - not death and terror
  • comfort for the affected families
  • a breath of life - both spiritually and naturally - in the area.

I was actually thinking about you and your movie last night while praying about this. How’s that coming?

Aaron, just to affirm to you that we continue to stand in prayer for the River Valley (Ft Smith/Alma as well as all surrounding area) and the “Church of the River Valley” to agree with you and other intercessors for the spirit of wisdom and understanding to be released here and a spirit of prayer for the entire region to receive the manifest glory of our Savior and the fullness of His great Love. May God’s Spirit of Power be released as His Word goes forth speedily to tear down strongholds and establish His Kingdom on earth, Amen. Bless you and Robin. We were in KC at ihop for a couple of days and praise God for His merciful kindness and outstretched hand. As we agree and contend together every foul and polluted spirit of darkness will be pushed back and the Light of His Presence manifest, Amen.

I read your comments on the spirit of death. I brethed it in and just tucked it into a corner. I am aware that such revelations are not just thoughts they are brought up for a reason.

This is my point: Three days ago the ARMY officially released a letter stating 2, 500 soldiers from Arkansas are going to Iraq in Spring of 2008. The orders havent been sent out individually, but start praying. Many of our young men and women will be receiving orders this month. A lot of families are going to be upset. My husband is also in the guard and I must remain strong for him and his friends.

Lets continue to pray agianst the spirit of death across the River Valley. Death… cant claim the lives of our soldiers. We will pray Pslams 91 over them and annoint thier hands to do battle. I say this to continue in faith, and no one is fighting this war in vein.

I will keep you posted if I find out anymore news.
